Joint Technical Trades Training Services

Over recent years, Chisholm has delivered trade training to Navy personnel across our campuses. This has involved training over 1000 students annually.

In 2023, we signed a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract to be part of the Joint Technical Trades Training Services network which will see Chisholm deliver trade training to the next generation of Navy recruits at HMAS Cerberus. This major project will involve the delivery of four qualifications to more than 500 apprentices per year over the next five years.

In this new contract, we are part of the National Technical Education Network (NTEN), a national consortium led by Wodonga TAFE that will deliver training to Defence personnel across the country.

This is the first time that the Australian Defence Force has combined Army, Navy, and Air Force trade training in a single national contract. It is also the first time that eight TAFE institutes and two private RTOs have combined to offer a seamless national training solution to the Australian Government.

Training facility

We established a new training facility at HMAS Cerberus on the Mornington Peninsula, and tailored delivery to meet specific Defence requirements. This flexibility and responsiveness resulted in a unique program where all theory is delivered upfront, followed by on-the-job practical training components of each course.

We will make a significant contribution to Australia’s Defence by ensuring that the next generation of Defence personnel receives high-quality training that meets the standards required of trusted technicians.

“We are proud to have a nationwide network of strategically aligned RTOs, led by Wodonga TAFE, with an established sovereign training capability that meets Navy and Army needs for Joint Technical Trades Training that is high-quality, scalable, and fit for purpose.”
- Damien Crawley, Executive Director, Training Transformation Solutions, Wodonga TAFE.
